The United States has formally charged Russia with crimes against humanity for the first time. According to US Vice President Kamala Harris, Russia is guilty of this in Ukraine.
Harris said at the Munich security conference that Russian forces are “widely and systematically” attacking the civilian population in their neighboring country. She formally announced that the US has “unquestionably” established Russian crimes against humanity.
The US vice president spoke of murder, rape and torture, among other things. She also cited the “barbaric and inhumane” massacre in Bocha and the bombing of a maternity hospital in Mariupol as examples. “The Russian actions are an attack on our shared values and our shared humanity.”
Joe Biden’s administration has talked about war crimes before. The Americans urge Ukraine to properly document all crimes, so that the chance of prosecution is as high as possible.
