A group of eight people entered the CTI of the Universal mutualist and beat up the intensive care doctor who was on duty, a fact that was rejected by the Uruguayan Medical Union (SMU) on Monday in a public statement.
The Uruguayan Medical Union expressed its “strongest rejection” of the violence suffered by a group of people against an intensive care doctor and nurses from the Intensive Care unit of the Universal mutual fund in Montevideo.
According to reports, last Friday eight people “invaded the facilities and medical rooms and physically assaulted the colleague and the nurses, determining their hospitalization.”
They understand that it is “unacceptable” that health professionals are subjected to attacks by those who seek medical attention.
“Violence should have no place in any field and it is especially worrying that it occurs in the context of health institutions. These events constitute a direct attack on our society and go against our fundamental values of respect, compassion and solidarity”, add the letter
The Uruguayan Medical Union “strongly” condemns any form of violence against health personnel and calls on the community to “contribute together with their safety.”
“We also call for the responsibility of all health care institutions, and the public force, who must provide a safe environment to provide quality care, an environment that was absent on this occasion,” accuses the union.
The SMU expects a quick action from the Justice system towards the identified aggressors.
