Soares is currently playing with Brazilian club Porto Alegre, while Cavani defends the colors of Argentine Boca Juniors, and they are the two best scorers in the history of the Uruguay national team, scoring 68 and 58 goals, respectively.
Both are 36 years old, and they defended the colors of “La Celeste” in the 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022 World Cups, but their names did not appear on the list published Monday by the Uruguayan Federation for their matches against Chile on Friday in Montevideo and Ecuador next Tuesday in Quito.
Bielsa ruled out two other veterans, the injured Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera (37 years), and Sporting Portuguese defender Sebastian Coates (32 years).
Thursday, the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, whose finals are scheduled for the United States, Mexico and Canada, will start.
