Madrid, May 4 (EFE).- The Almagro International Classical Theater Festival, considered among the best in the world in this genre, has Uruguay this year as a guest country, in addition to including works from others such as Mexico, Argentina, Guatemala, Chile and Colombia.
The 45th edition of the festival, presented this Wednesday in Madrid, has scheduled between the next June 30 to July 24 in the town of Almagro (south) performances of 55 theater companies from ten countries, in addition to Spain.
The director of the festival, Ignacio García, assured that Almagro becomes during those days around the theater a “common home for those who arrive from the Americas” and from other parts of the world.
With Uruguay as the guest country, this edition welcomes the verse of the Uruguayan writer Ida Vitale, Cervantes Prize 2018: “Being at night a being like during the day”, to turn the summer nights of Almagre into a great party.
Ignacio García indicated that the fact of having Uruguay as a guest is a “way of thanking great exiles of Spanish theater for their welcome” such as José Estruch and Margarita Xirgu.
From there will come emblematic titles of the Golden Age repertoire such as “Semíramis”, “El perro del hortelano” or “El Principe Constant”, along with companies such as Comedia Nacional, El Galpón or the vision of Luis de Góngora established by Gustavo Espinosa and Carlos Rehermann.
The foreign shows come, in addition to Uruguay, from the Ivory Coast, Mexico, the United States, Argentina, Guatemala, Chile, Italy, Colombia and the United Kingdom.
The festival is dedicated to the theatrical creation of the 16th and 17th centuries in the Hispanic world, the Golden Age of culture in Spanish during the Renaissance and the Baroque. EFE
