Uruguay Defender Diego Godin Retires from Football at Age 37: A Glittering Career Comes to an End

Uruguay defender Diego Godin has officially retired from football at the age of 37 after playing for Argentinian club Velez Sarsfield.

Godin has played in four World Cups. And mostly living in La Liga, the longest being a star at Atletico Madrid between 2010 and 2019, where he won the Spanish league, the Copa del Rey, the Europa League twice and Three UEFA Super Cups

Godin, who has 161 caps for his country, has played for Villarreal, Inter Milan, Cagliari, Atletico Mineiro and Velez Sarfield.

“Hello football Today I ended another stage in my life. I’m going home with my family now. It’s what I always wanted. From now on, I want to live in my country with my family,” Godin posted on social media on July 31, the day after he played for the club. The final match of the season that went out to be defeated by Urakan 1-0, including a total of 20 years of career.
