Accusations continue to pile up against the urologist Dr. Darius Paduchwho faces allegations of sexual abuse by patients at various hospitals in New York. The number of victims now amounts to 70 people affected by these acts.
Initially arrested in April on charges of abuse dating between 2015 and 2019urologist Paduch faces charges of inappropriately touching minors and adults under the guise of legitimate medical treatment.
During those years, Paduch practiced in the NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center and in Northwell Health. In a turn of events, 28 new lawsuits were filed in Manhattan Supreme Court against these two medical institutions. The plaintiffs are former patients who allege they have been victims of sexual assaults perpetrated by the doctor, while maintaining that the hospitals neglected their duty to prevent these incidents.
According to the lawsuits, the hospitals “knew or should have known that the Dr. Paduch could take advantage of his position as an employee to perpetrate sexual abuse against patients“. However, the institutions “did not take reasonable measures to protect” the victims, affirm the documents cited by the New York Post.
Legal action against Paduch began in April after a 16-year-old intern filed the first complaint in December, alleging that the doctor had sexually abused him between 2015 and 2017 while working at NewYork-Presbyterian.
A Northwell Health spokesperson said the doctor no longer works at their facility and said the hospital will fully cooperate with authorities throughout the investigation.
It should be noted that all the accusations presented are simply that, accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
In a similar scenario, Dr. Zhi Alan Cheng faces charges in Queens for drugging and sexually assaulting several women, including his own patients and others he came into contact with online, all while filming the attacks.
In an earlier case, Robert Hadden, a former gynecologist at New York’s Columbia University, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being found guilty in a federal lawsuit for sexual abuse of patients.
In October, nearly 150 women who reported sexual abuse and misconduct by former gynecologist Hadden reached a $165 million settlement with the hospital system that employed him, Columbia University announced.
Another similar case took place in August 2022, when Ricardo Cruciani, a doctor of Argentine origin, committed suicide in Rikers prison in New York. Cruciani had been accused of sexually abusing multiple patients in New York, Jersey and Pennsylvania.
