Urk young people after Nazi dressing up in conversation with Holocaust survivor

The Urk youths who recently walked around in Nazi clothes on the street, had a conversation with 80-year-old Lous Steenhuis-Hoepelman. She was in several concentration camps during the Second World War.

The Jewish woman was shocked by the images of the costume party and called for a meeting last week. The young people have complied. They came to visit her and took a bunch of flowers with them. They also apologized.

The group of ten walked around on Saturday, September 11 in clothing that was strongly reminiscent of Nazi uniforms. Images also show that one of the young people was wearing a prison outfit with a Star of David. He was held at gunpoint by the others.

Emotions

In the conversation Steenhuis-Hoepelman talked about her experiences in the concentration camps Westerbork and Bergen-Belsen. According to the municipality and the Center for Information and Documentation Israel (CIDI), it has become clear to young people what emotions their behavior has led to among war victims and their relatives, writes. Broadcasting Flevoland.

The young people will also go to camp Westerbork in a few months. There they get a tour. The municipality is also in talks with their parents.
