In the capital of the Gauls, mobile vespasiennes installed in the middle of the street are controversial. These urinals placed in the heart of Lyon, in full view, did not fail to make people react. Unveiled on April 1, some even believed in a hoax.
After the mobile urinals, tested in the Guillotière district last February, a new controversy emerged on Friday April 1st. The people of Lyon discovered, right in the centre, female and male urinals. These three urinals were installed in plain sight, on Place Pradel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If the first experiment had triggered the anger of the Collectif La Guillotière en Colère and many local residents, these new urinals instead triggered jeers and mockery. In the opposition, some elected officials are appalled and outrageds.
Thus, the opposition metropolitan councilor “Inventing the metropolis of tomorrow”, Louis Pelaezposted a photo from Place Louis Pradel. “I really wondered if it was just an April Fool’s Day joke…well apparently it wasn’t…” quips the chosen one. His post was widely retweeted and commented on.

The reactions are sometimes scathing like that of Fouziya Bouzerdaformer assistant: “I was unable to set up an organic market once a week on the protected Place Pradel. At this rate, Unesco will kick us out of the rankings.”
On the social network twitter, the controversy swells especially under the hashtags #urinoirgate #saccagelyon. The latter echoing #saccageparis. These new urinals add to the criticism of urinals in the Guillotière district. The installation of a dozen mobile urinals in gray plastic at the Guillotière at the end of January had angered local residents. These temporary vespasiennes are neither connected to the sewers nor to any sanitary network.
Today, among twittos, this new case triggers ironic reactions. Some play the caustic humor card. One of them made a pictorial summary of the policy of the Greens in Lyon and in Metropolitan France for two years.
These urinals must be installed in four sectors of the city: the quays of the Rhône in thehe 3rd and 7th arrondissementsBlandan Park, Place Louis Pradel and the Saint Paul station area. In total, 16 sanitary “hygienic and ecological” will be put in place at the beginning of April, and this until September. That is 7 female urinals, 7 male urinals and 2 toilets accessible to people with reduced mobility (PRM).
These devices are installed in places where it is technically impossible to install conventional sanitary facilities without access to water, argued the town hall.
