The councilor was with the Army and, with the photos he took with the soldiers, invited the mayor of Cali, Alejandro Eder, and the governor of Valle, Dilian Francisca Toro, to promote the payment of a minimum wage to young people who present military service.
But it has been questioned that in one of those photos it appears that the councilor was leading an Army squad, which could become misuse of institutional images.
The Army’s response: He said that both instruction and training are the exclusive responsibility of the officers, non-commissioned officers or soldiers, who know and are prepared to carry them out. He assured that, at that time, two officers and a non-commissioned officer were in charge of leading the squad.
He stressed that military units carry out demonstrations to institutions, entities and sectors of society. And he pointed out that from the Higher Command, a general inspection commission was ordered to the Cali Military Unit to verify the procedures.
Escobar is charged by the Prosecutor’s Office. For the crimes of usurpation in public functions and use or throwing of dangerous objects. During the 2021 strike, Escobar went out to confront protesters in the south of the city. In several videos he was seen shooting civilians. Later, he said in the media that his weapon was blank. Next month he will face the preparatory hearing that he has canceled twice.
