Urgent Warning: Public Health Experts Urge Winter Holiday Vaccinations

Public health experts are urging everyone to get vaccinated this winter holiday.

In the past 4 weeks, hospitalizations for people of all ages increased by 200% for influenza, 51% for COVID-19, and 60% for respiratory syncytial virus, known as RSV.

Locally, COVID and flu cases continue to rise steadily, with around a thousand new COVID cases in the San Antonio area in the last two weeks.

But nationally, according to the CDC, so far compared to last year, the number of adults who have received their flu vaccine has decreased by more than seven million, and COVID vaccination rates are also low.

Elizabeth Allen, spokesperson for University Hospital, reminded Bexar County residents that vaccines help protect themselves and others.

COVID and flu vaccines are available to most people.

Pregnant women, babies, and older people can also get vaccinated against RSV.
