A few minutes ago the unfortunate news of the murder of the mayor of the municipality of Guachené, in the north of Cauca, was confirmed.
The mayor, Elmer Abonía Rodríguez, was killed this afternoon in circumstances that are being investigated by the judicial authorities. So far no State entity has commented on what happened.
Preliminarily, it is known that the crime took place on a sidewalk in the municipality, when the president was leaving a community meeting. Apparently, on the way he was intercepted by armed individuals who shot him dead.
One of his bodyguards was also injured in the incident. Elmer’s body was taken to Puerto Tejada for urgent care. News in development…
