For the second time in a row, Russia refused to participate in an urgent meeting of the TCG after the start of the aggravation in the Donbass.
Russia did not take part in the urgent meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group on the situation in Donbas, the Ukrainian delegation of the TCG reports on Saturday, February 19.
“This position of the Russian Federation is surprising, because the political advisers to the leaders of the Normandy Format countries, in a joint statement on January 26, 2022, supported the unconditional observance of the ceasefire and full dedication to measures to strengthen the ceasefire of July 22, 2020, despite other issues, the implementation of the Minsk We believe that the non-participation of the Russian Federation indicates its conscious intention to continue aggravating the situation, and the blocking of the work of the TCG calls into question the sincerity of the statements of the leadership of the Russian Federation about the commitment to the implementation of the Minsk agreements and the absence of aggressive intentions towards Ukraine,” the report says.
During consultations with the OSCE Coordinator in the TCG, the Ukrainian side stated that there were no plans to conduct an offensive operation. In support of this, the following facts were cited:
-
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are in their positions in the area of the Joint Forces Operation,
-
Rotations of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which could cause concern, are not made,
-
Strike groups are not created,
-
The equipment and weapons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, withdrawn in accordance with the Minsk agreements, are located in the designated areas and are open for control by the OSCE,
-
The number of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine located in the JFO area has not been increased and does not exceed the number as of December 22, 2021, that is, at the time of the OSCE Coordinator’s statement about the firm determination of the participants in the TCG consultations to fully comply with measures to strengthen the ceasefire regime,
-
The Armed Forces of Ukraine strictly adhere to the measures to strengthen the ceasefire agreed within the framework of the TCG on July 22, 2020
“In the course of bilateral consultations, Ukraine once again confirmed its readiness for an urgent discussion within the framework of the Trilateral Contact Group of the security situation and ways to de-escalate it,” the statement said.
Recall that Ukraine advocated holding an urgent meeting of the TCG after the escalation in Donbas on February 17, but Russia and representatives of the “LDNR” refused. the day before Ukraine again convened an urgent meetingwhich was supposed to take place this morning.
