Through the pouring rain, the vehicle enters the underpass.
The road I usually go to work was controlled by a landslide, so I took a detour.
[박종선/당시 지하차도 운전자 : “산사태가 발생돼서 그쪽이 막혀있어서 다른 쪽으로 갔더니 다른쪽도 침수돼있어서 거기가 ‘마지막으로 가자’ 해서 갔는데…”]
Underground roadway without a flood warning issued 4 hours ago, detour notice, or road control.
By the time you reach the exit of the underground car, muddy water suddenly starts to pour in.
[박종선/당시 지하차도 운전자 : “우측 하수도가 역류하는게 보였고, 좌측에서 물이 치고 들어오길래 ‘아 이제 큰일 났구나’…”]
I sped up and barely got out.
Another vehicle entering the underpass.
The exit is still ahead, but the water starts to come in.
[“어우 물 차는데…”]
Sensing danger, the driver turns the car around and chooses to drive in reverse.
It also informs surrounding vehicles of the situation urgently.
[“물 차 물 차!! 사장님 (차) 빼빼!!”]
The driver desperately shouts all the way out of the driveway, but…
[“차 돌리셔, 물 차!! 물이 차올라요, 차올라. 돌리셔야 돼…”]
It was not enough to block other vehicles entering the underpass without knowing why.
I tried to call 119 while leaving the scene, but the rescue help was too far away compared to the urgent situation.

It was after the underpass was already filled with water that the driver checked the warning text.

They said in unison that this accident could have been prevented if road control was done in advance.
