A frantic search is underway in Bulgaria for 13-year-old Nikolay Iliev, who went missing from his village of Konare, near Gurkovo, on Tuesday afternoon. Authorities are pleading for the public’s help in locating the young boy, who has Down syndrome, according to family members.
Nikolay was last seen around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. He is described as a slim build with dark hair, and was wearing a dark jacket, a sweatshirt, dark pants, and slippers at the time of his disappearance.The challenging weather conditions, with earlier sunsets, are hindering the search efforts.
“A central office has been set up in the village of gurkovo together with the mayor of the town of Konare. all the police forces are involved. The child’s relatives and neighbors are also involved. All the citizens who heard about this news came to help,” said Gurkovo Mayor Kuncho Papazov. He expressed concern about the increasingly difficult search conditions due to the weather,adding,“It’s getting dark much earlier. I am asking all citizens to help our headquarters. Anyone who can is welcome so that our activities can be completed safely.”
Konare mayor Stancho Stefanov shared that Nikolay was always closely supervised by his parents and had never wandered off before. “I was contacted by their neighbour at 1:45 p.m. that they had not seen the child for 40 minutes. we formed a group to investigate. the child has difficulty contacting peopel, but is hyperactive,” Mayor Stefanov explained.
