The president of the Piura Chamber of Commerce and Production (CAMCO), Javier Bereche, spoke about the urgent request to implement the dengue vaccine as part of the strategy to fight this endemic disease in the region.

In this regard, he pointed out that the private sector has all the disposition to acquire and distribute them but it finds itself with a great limitation that is the authorization of the Government.
“The private sector wanted to buy vaccines for COVID when the vaccines are released to the world, three to four months before Peru acquired the first batch, the private sector contacted the laboratories and suppliers but we could not bring them,” he said.
“It is not just about talking to the distributor or the sales representative in the world of laboratories to buy them and having the resources to do so, but the Government has to give medical authorization for the entry of a drug into the country”said.

Along these lines, he indicated that the Peruvian State and the private sector have to work in coordination to make this need possible.
“If the private sector wanted to buy dengue vaccines, it would be very difficult to bring it alone, there must be a joint action with the Government, specifically with the health areas that certify the entry of these drugs, either for sale in pharmacies or as donations”, stressed.
Finally, he stressed that if the vaccines available in the world against dengue have a high rate of effectiveness, they must be promoted.
“If the vaccine has already been approved in other first world countries such as Brazil, which is one of the most developed in terms of medicine and science in Latin America, then in Peru the means have to be put”said.
Vaccines against dengue in the world
It should be noted that two main vaccines are applied in the world, TAK-003, from the Japanese pharmaceutical company Takeda, also known as Qdenga, which received its first approval in August 2022 in Indonesia and later in the European Union in December 2022. Then , followed by the United Kingdom in January 2023 and has also recently been approved by the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA). Its use is contemplated for endemic areas.

Consulted on the subject, the former Minsa adviser, Arnaldo Vite, pointed out that the TAK-003 vaccine is the one that covers a greater age range and its percentage of effectiveness is 80.2%.
