The Guadalajara Blood Donor Association has warned that blood of all types is needed, especially the types 0 positive y A positiveas a consequence of the drop in reservations due to the Christmas holidays.
“During Christmas, people are immersed in celebrations, visiting families, etc., and we have lowered blood donation levels”said the president of the association, Nacho Redondowho has encouraged the Guadalajara population to come and donate blood “to the second floor of the University Hospital, to the Brotherhood of Blood Donors, or today at the Mondéjar medical center, because we need all types of blood”.

Furthermore, Redondo has explained that, of the “three fundamental components” that are extracted in each donation, which are blood, plasma and platelets, the latter have greatly reduced their reserves, since “They are the ones with the longest shelf life; they expire after five days”. In this sense, he has stressed that platelets are essential to use them, “apart from treatments for people who are undergoing processes, for example, viruses that are affecting us now with influenza A and with the resurgence of Covid, for oncology patients”.
In this way, the president of the Guadalajara Blood Donors has invited citizens to try donation, at least “once”why “Extraordinary things happen: one, that you feel good, because you are helping others; another, that you feel good because renewing a little blood from time to time is also good for us, and, thirdly, because knowing that you are helping to save a life or, in this case, three possible lives, is very comforting.”in exchange for investing just seven or ten minutes “how long does a normal extraction take”.

Finally, Nacho Redondo highlighted that, in the province of Guadalajara, “we are generous” in blood donation, pointing out that “In 2022, we made about 4,522 donations and, in 2023, we have managed to reach 4,580, that is, we are talking about about 50 more donations”. Figures to which we must add the approximately 500 new donors produced every yearwhich allow “that those donors who are turning years old and stop donating will be replaced.”
The person who wishes to donate blood can do so at the second floor of the University Hospital of Guadalajara on schedule “from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., therefore we have a very wide range to be able to come and donate at any time”Redondo concluded.
