The number of malaria cases in Pelele Tepoe village is showing from September 2020
a sharp increase compared to the other months in 2020. In the frame
The Medical Mission of Primary Health Care Suriname (MZ) has of this
collaboration with the Malaria Program of the Ministry of Health
organized an emergency krutu. This krutu was held in the
village PeleleTepoe with the village captain, basjas and the rangers from ACT. The target
of the krutu was to discuss and evaluate the malaria situation in the village
how to make this situation manageable.
The director of MZ, Herman Jintie, has asked the captain to check
how he can contribute together with the inhabitants of the village. The
Medical Mission has an MZ microscopist on for a period of 3 months
the outpatient clinic, which will perform the screening and tests on site. The
treatment is done protocol by a Healthcare Assistant (GzA)
in close consultation with the doctor.
Helene Hiwat, coordinator of the Ministry’s Malaria Program
Public health indicates that Suriname was almost malaria-free. “The first
malaria outbreak for this year was at Palumeu, which is through good cooperation with
the fellowship has ended. At the moment we only have Pelele Tepoe and
Apetina malaria cases, where we also expect the same cooperation to
Pelele Tepoe malaria-free, ”says the coordinator of it
Malaria program. She asks the captain and the community to come along too
work by doing self-protection (including sleeping under a mosquito net) and
participate in the treatment thereof. The village captain indicated that he was grateful
are that there is national attention for the malaria situation on Pelele Tepoe and has
promised to deliver the message. He will work with his structures on it
ensuring that everyone entering the village requires malaria screening
will undergo. Together with the Ministry of Health, MZ monitors the
malaria situation in Pelele Tepoe and nearby indigenous villages.
