Urgent: Health stresses .. Children must be vaccinated against polio

The head of the Preventive Medicine Sector at the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Alaa Eid, spoke through a telephone conversation with the TEN channel today, and said that the World Health Organization declared Egypt free of polio in 2006 and that the last recorded case of childhood disease was in 2004.

He stressed that the vaccination is safe and effective, and parents must vaccinate their children even if they received the same vaccination from special centers, and the Ministry organizes an annual campaign to vaccinate against polio, in order to vaccinate all Egyptian and non-Egyptian children residing in Egypt.

The vaccination takes place from the age of one day to 5 years, using the oral vaccine to raise immunity in Egyptian children and also raise immunity among children coming from countries where the polio virus is present, in order to add to the continued preservation of Egypt free of disease.

He added that it was decided to implement the campaign this year, from February 28 to March 3, for a period of 4 days, and that would be through two types of teams, the first through mobile teams that move from one housing unit to another to reach all children.

The second type is the fixed teams in all health units, medical centers and health offices, as well as places where citizens gather, including markets, train stations, and in front of mosques and churches, and there are also fixed teams for vaccination.
