Urgent Call for National Education Reform: ver.di Calls for Training Period Implementation

National Continuing Education Conference: Finally getting education time off the ground – Bühler: Continuing education industry needs to be upgraded

Press release. Berlin, November 14, 2023. On the occasion of the National Further Training Conference, the United Services Union (ver.di) is urgently calling for the introduction of a training period to finally be politically initiated. “The government parties agreed on the introduction of an educational period in the coalition agreement. This project has not yet been implemented. This absolutely has to happen now,” emphasized ver.di federal board member Sylvia Bühler. The first National Further Training Conference will take place today and tomorrow (November 14th/15th, 2023) in Berlin and is aimed at specialists in the field of further training.

As the world of work changes, it is more urgent than ever to ensure that further training is well positioned in order to cushion social consequences and promote economic development. In addition to sharpening the instruments of labor market policy, it is also necessary to further develop individual further training support, said Bühler.

Bühler made it clear that the national training strategy will only be successful in conjunction with a systematic upgrading of the industry. This definitely included better working conditions for those taking further training: higher wages, reliable prospects and collective bargaining protection. ver.di federal board member Bühler: “Ver.di is committed to this, but politicians are also asked to set the necessary framework conditions. This is the only way to find and retain the skilled workers who are essential for good further training.”
