The Princess Grace Hospital (CHPG) in Monaco, faced with a serious shortage of blood, has launched an urgent appeal for donations.
Despite efforts to increase reserves, only 2,000 bags were collected out of the 4,500 to 5,000 needed annually to meet the needs of the population. This shortage is particularly concerning for patients who rely on transfusions, such as those with cancer or serious blood disorders.
Mélanie Rinaudo-Gaujous, head of the Monaco blood transfusion center, underlined the critical nature of the situation in an interview with Radio Monaco: “Nothing can replace blood, and donations are particularly crucial for people with cancer and of certain blood diseases.
The French Blood Establishment intervenes temporarily to provide assistance, but the CHPG wishes to reduce this dependence by mobilizing local donors. Any healthy adult aged over 18 and weighing over 50kg can donate. The process is quick and simple, takes only 45 minutes and can save lives.
To make donating even easier, a free shuttle service is available to pick up donors from their home or office, transport them to the CHPG and then bring them back. Appointments can be made via the Monaco Santé platform, allowing for a smooth and efficient experience.
The law allows men to donate blood up to six times a year, while women can donate up to four times. Every donation is crucial to ensuring that CHPG has enough reserves to meet the health needs of the community.
With Monaco’s strong tradition of community support and solidarity, now is the time for residents to step up and give the gift of life.
Your blood bank needs you: make a difference today by making an appointment and joining the fight against this shortage.
