TIJUANA.- The Blood Bank of the General Hospital of Tijuana (HGT) calls on the community to participate in the permanent altruistic donation campaign, since there is currently a fluid deficit that can be resolved only with the participation of the community .
The coordination of the HGT Blood Bank explained that it is a necessary resource to perform surgeries; in emergencies, to care for victims of accidents caused at home, work or on public roads, in addition to patients with chronic, kidney, oncology or heart diseases, among others.
Derived from this, a call is made to healthy women and men, between 18 and 65 years of age, with good habits, to participate in saving lives.
It is necessary to raise awareness in the community of the importance of altruistic donation, since currently the Blood Bank must ensure at least 40 units daily to meet the demand that exists, especially from the general hospitals of Tecate and Playas de Rosarito.
Those interested in donating can go to the HGT from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is required to carry an official identification and a drink that can be juice; mandatory fasting is also requested.
The process includes offering personal information, a talk with general information about the process, prior blood extraction for laboratory testing and medical evaluation, and having previously slept at least six hours.
The extraction process takes around 20 minutes, with minimal discomfort, in exchange it will be the satisfaction of helping patients altruistically, since by law in Mexico you cannot receive payment or any compensation for donating blood.
