The Blood and Tissue Bank of the Balearic Islands announced on Monday (04/24/2023) that they urgently need 540 donations of different blood groups this week.
According to a press release, at least 365 Group 0+, 95 Group 0- and 80 Group A- donations are needed to ensure adequate care for patients.
The situation has become critical in recent days due to the decline in blood donations, it said. It is necessary to have a sufficient supply of blood and blood products to treat patients in need, including the chronically ill, patients undergoing surgery, and patients who have suffered accidents or emergencies.
In the communiqué, the organization recalled that blood donation is an act of solidarity and altruism that saves lives, stressing the importance of the Balearic population working together to ensure that there are enough blood bags available to treat patients to provide for in need.
