The young woman, Sarah, suffers from multiple health problems that have accompanied her since birth, as she suffered from cerebral palsy, a mental disability, and the absence of teeth to help her chew food. She currently needs a dental implant operation at a cost of 81,410 dirhams, and will face major health problems if she delays treatment, according to Al Ain Governmental Hospital.
The medical reports obtained by “Emirates Today” from Al Ain Governmental Hospital showed that “the young woman (Sarah) is 29 years old, a person of determination, who suffers from cerebral palsy and mental disability, and has no teeth. The specialist doctor performed a jaw transplant on her in two stages.” Her treatment was covered by insurance.”
Medical reports confirmed that “the patient urgently needs a dental implant operation in the lower and upper jaws, and insurance does not include this type of operation.”
Sarah’s father told the story of his daughter’s suffering to Emirates Al-Youm, saying: “Doctors confirmed that my daughter had a mental disability since her birth, as a result of hereditary causes. She received treatment in several government hospitals in Abu Dhabi, but for some time she had not been able to eat normally, which… It led to her weight decreasing significantly, resulting in medical problems that required her to be transferred to the nearest hospital to monitor her condition.”
He added, “The medical tests confirmed the necessity of visiting the dental department, to find out the reason for her inability to eat normally, and the treating doctor actually referred her to the dental clinic department at Al Ain Governmental Hospital, who asked us to immediately admit her to the hospital.”
He continued, “Medical examinations showed that Sarah has a problem with her teeth in the upper and lower jaws, as it turned out that her teeth are very small, due to the lack of bone in the jaw, which requires their extraction, jaw surgeries, bone transplantation, and dental implants for her at a later stage.”
He continued, “The doctor told me that health insurance will cover the cost of jaw surgery and bone implants, but it does not cover dental implants.”
He said, “I cannot pay even a small part of the costs of my daughter’s surgery, because my financial circumstances are difficult at the present time. I am the sole breadwinner for my family, which consists of six individuals. I work in a private company, and I receive a monthly salary of 8,500 dirhams, of which I pay 4,500 dirhams for housing rent.” Monthly, while the rest of the amount goes to cover our daily life requirements.”
Sarah’s father appeals to those with kind hearts and generous hands to help him manage the costs of a dental implant and prosthesis for his daughter, whose health condition has gradually begun to deteriorate.
• The patient’s father supports a family of 6 people and is unable to afford treatment.
