The Limburg carnival associations call on all people who want to celebrate carnival to be vaccinated.
“We cannot oblige people, that is up to the government,” said chairman Jos Hessels of the Bond van Carnavalsverenigingen in Limburg (BCL) on Wednesday. “We do give urgent advice to do that.”
The BCL is the umbrella organization of 170 associations. Together with another Limburg umbrella, the Samewirkende Limburgse Vastelaovesvereniginge (SLV), the BCL calls on carnivalists to vaccinate against corona. The carnival season starts in November. Both organizations kick off that season with festive gatherings, where thousands of people are present and the beer flows freely.
“We see that the organizers are wondering: can it go ahead?”, says Hessels. “And there are people who are afraid, and wonder: will I go there, given the risk of contamination? If people come who are not vaccinated, who knows what I will get, people wonder. So our advice is: if you want the Vastlaovend (carnival) to continue in Limburg, then have that shot!”
