AMSTELVEEN – Amstelveners must wear a face mask in shops, museums, restaurants and public buildings. With that urgent advice, Mayor Poppens is addressing his own population.

According to the mayor, that is the only way to stop the advance of the coronavirus: “If these measures do not lead to a decrease in the number of infections within a few weeks, a new lockdown is inevitable”, Poppens writes in an open book. brief.
More difficult
Poppens sees in his environment that it is increasingly difficult for people to adhere to the measures now that the crisis continues, especially when it comes to keeping their distance from one another. “The economic and social consequences of the measures are already serious enough. For entrepreneurs, for example, and for older people who have to take extra care. The schools remain open, but the measures we are now taking are a painful step backwards for all of us.”
Earlier, Mayor Halsema of Amsterdam and chairman of the Amsterdam-Amstelland Safety Region called for one national duty to mask masks. It is unclear whether the mayor of Amstelveen is also in favor of this.
