We tend to forget it in Europe, but Japan is a country where watchmaking is elevated to the level of great art.
Precision, finishes, reliability, etc. The Japanese have nothing to envy the Swiss, especially since they are generally better placed in terms of price, with prices that have remained reasonable given the quality of the products. This is not always the case with our Swiss neighbors who are then surprised to sell less … But hey, this is another story.
The fact remains that these days, wearing a Japanese mechanical watch is a trend among lovers of fine watchmaking. A way to express his taste for beautiful things, but beautiful things that are out of the ordinary, “mainstream”, the beaten track.
In a way of saying: I like watches, I know watchmaking but I want to wear something different and excellent value for money. To wear a “Japanese” is to be a connoisseur, certainly, but with a twist of originality.
