Urban planning reopens Avenida Padre Esplá to road traffic | Radio Alicante

The Town Planning Department, led by Adrián Santos, has reported the opening of Avenida Padre Esplá in both directions. A demand that existed on the part of the citizens for several years.

The project execution period had to be extended to twelve months due to the forced modifications of the winning company. In total, the City Council has invested a total of 2.8 million euros.

With these works, the Department of Urbanism aims to improve the living conditions of the residents, while at the same time carrying out an avant-garde action for the city, which they report will help promote relations between the neighborhood and nearby businesses.

Lanes have been eliminated in the project, giving priority to pedestrians with the widening of sidewalks, as well as the provision of new trees and small living areas. On the other hand, the central position of the bike lane seeks to become a symbolic element, with the aim of promoting the use of bicycles in the city of Alicante.

In addition, the sidewalks and the road have been made at the same level, complying with the regulations on accessibility, and creating new and larger pedestrian crossings. The sum of all these actions aims to make the avenue more permeable for pedestrians, with a clear vocation of integration of the urban areas located to the north and south of the avenue.
