Urban art, talks and contests on social networks to commemorate Pride in Benidorm

The councilors for Social Welfare and Equality, Ángela Llorca and Ángela Zaragozí, have pointed out that “these proposals are in addition to the already traditional placement of the rainbow flag on the City Hall balcony and the lighting in the same tones of one of our most emblematic spaces : el Castell ”. “We are thus recovering a more dynamic and complete schedule, after the ‘impass’ imposed last year by the pandemic,” said Llorca.

In addition, he has detailed, “this year, as a novelty, it has been wanted make the young people of Benidorm even more part of this event “Hence, the Youth Department, led by Jaime Jesús Pérez, has proposed activities aimed mainly at this segment of the population and that contribute to giving visibility to the LGTBI movement and diversity.

Thus, they have been summoned two contests, photography and video, on the social networks Instagram and TikTok with the aim of publicizing the creativity of young people and the city itself within the framework of the #BenidormLGTBI Campaign, while promoting the responsible use of networks and technology. Pérez has clarified that “although both contests are fundamentally designed for the young population, they are open to all those who want to participate and thus collaborate with the objectives of the campaign, regardless of their age.”

Participation in both contests is open from now until June 30. The videos of the TikTok contest must be made in Benidorm and revolve around the LGTBI theme, with a maximum duration of 1 minute. Each participant will be able to present a video, upload it to their TikTok profile, name and follow the City Council (@benidormayto), register with the Youth Council – in person, by mail, or through any of their social networks – and use the hashtag #BenidormLGTBI. The three best videos will receive a tripod ring light up to 210 centimeters, with three tones of light and bluetooth control.

Three winners will also be chosen in the Instagram contest, which in this case will have as a prize a submersible adventure camera up to 30 meters. It has been established that each participant may present a photograph, taken in Benidorm on the LGTBI theme. To formalize participation, it will be necessary to follow the City Council (@ay Ayuntamientodebenidorm) and the Council (@juventudbenidorm), tagging the latter and adding the hashtag ‘#Benidorm LGTBI.

The Councilor for Youth has advanced that the jury’s ruling “will be announced in the following days after the end of the registration period on the website and municipal networks.”

Other activities

Apart from both events, Benidorm has organized a Urban Art workshop in the La Torreta social center, in which users of Tapis, CEEM, CRIS and the ‘Minors with judicial measures in an open environment’ program participate, who have previously received training in LGTBI and equality matters. The result of this workshop, given by an urban artist in two sessions, can be seen on June 28 next to the Youth Information Center, where the structure made by the participants will be placed. It is a composition with rainbow cubes and LGTBI messages.

In addition, on Friday, May 25 at 7:30 p.m. there will be a talk on ‘Identities and sexual orientation’ at the Youth Information Center; while it remains open until the end of the month the photographic exhibition ‘Muses of Cape Verde’ by German photojournalist Juliette Brinkmann, on the participants of the first Pride march that was held in Africa in 2013.
