Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Ivana Marie Trump or commonly known as Ivanka Trump stumbled on a scandal and was ousted from her position.
The eldest daughter of US President Donald Trump has been accused of misusing donor funds while on her father’s inauguration committee in 2017.
In the court filing documents, Ivanka, who also serves as a senior adviser to the White House, was interviewed by lawyers from the Washington DC Attorney General’s office on Tuesday (12/1/2020).
Prosecutors filed a waste of nonprofit fund lawsuit against him, calling it a giving of more than $ 1 million in improper payments to a Trump-owned hotel in Washington, DC during inauguration week in 2017.
Not only Ivanka, the capital of Melania Trump and a close friend of the president who chaired the appointment committee of Thomas Barrack Jr. were also called.
Attorney General Karl Racine said Trump’s inauguration committee spent a fortune booking a ballroom at the Trump International Hotel.
The payment scheme was deemed too expensive for a party room and enriched the president’s own family in the process.
Racine accused organizers of misappropriating nonprofit funds and coordinating with hotel management and members of the Trump family to organize the event.
“District laws oblige nonprofits to use their funds for their stated public purposes, not to benefit private individuals or companies,” Racine was quoted as saying by CNBC International.
“In this case, we are trying to recover a non-profit that was channeled inappropriately into the Trump family business.”
Trump confirmed and said the interrogation lasted five hours via Twitter on Thursday (3/12/2020).
“This inquiry is yet another demonstration of politically motivated ‘revenge’ & waste of taxpayer dollars,” Trump was quoted as saying by NBC News, noting that the Washington DC Attorney General is a Democrat.
“The market price should be fair,” he added in his teasing.
Meanwhile, Alan Garten, a lawyer for Trump’s organization said the same thing.
“Ivanka’s only involvement is to connect the parties and instruct hotels to charge a ‘fair market rate’, which is done by hotels,” he said.
