Uproar of Artists and Influencers in Myanmar Military Junta Shoot

Jakarta

Nearly 40 artists and influence, including singers and models were also targeted Myanmar military junta by issuing arrest warrants to them. These public figures often speak out protest and against military rule.

As reported Reuters, Sunday (4/4/2021), the arrest warrant is addressed under a law prohibiting incitement to the armed forces, regarding dissent. The announcement made through state media broadcasts on Friday (2/4) and Saturday (3/4) threatened to impose a sentence of up to 3 years in prison.

One on the list of arrests, blogger Thurein Hlaing Win, told Reuters he was shocked to see himself labeled a criminal on television and now has to go into hiding.

“I have not done anything bad or evil. I stand on the side of the truth. I follow the path I believe in. Between good and evil, I choose good,” he said by phone from an undisclosed location.

“If I am punished for that, my conscience is clear. My belief will not change. Everyone knows the truth.”

Meanwhile, at Sunday’s protests (4/4), demonstrators made Easter eggs a symbol of insubordination. They posted pictures of eggs with slogans against the junta.

Messages including “We Must Win”, “Spring Revolution” and “Exit MAH” were painted over eggs in photos posted on social media, the latest message referred to in reference to junta leader Min Aung Hlaing.

Myanmar’s military ruled with an iron fist after seizing power in a 1962 coup until it began withdrawing from civilian politics a decade ago, releasing Suu Kyi from years of house arrest and holding general elections in 2015, which Suu Kyi’s party won.

It is said they must overthrow Suu Kyi’s government because the November election, again won easily by her party, was marred by fraud. The junta’s claim was later rejected by the election commission.
