Photographer Simon Süss (29) from Steinberg am See has compiled the beauties of the region in his photo book. In addition to the photos, film sequences were also produced. The author handed over the raw material with 80 different drone shots to the professional Knut Höflein for further processing, who merged the various film formats, faded in titles and added classical music. The result was a 45-minute virtual sightseeing flight over the Upper Palatinate, which started in the north, swung over the eastern and western parts and finally ended in the district capital.

Anchor points are the numerous castles, monasteries and churches in the region. The film shows the monasteries of Kastl, Michelfeld, Seligenporten, Plankstetten, Schönthal, Reichenbach, Walderbach and Schwarzenfeld from a bird’s perspective. The photos of the castle ruins of Stockenfels, Lobenstein and Burglengenfeld are impressive. When panning over the cities, the churches stand out, in Schwandorf the Kreuzberg, in Fahrenberg the pilgrimage church and in Regensburg the cathedral. The drone flies along the Danube at different times of the day, accompanied by music from Johann Strauss’ “Donauwaltz”.

The Charlottenhofer Weihergebiet in the evening light, the Steinerne Brücke at dawn, the city of Nabburg in the light of the sunset, the winter landscapes near Stadlern and Schönsee: Author Simon Süss has invested countless hours to capture the beauties of his homeland in all seasons. The film was made in cooperation with the Schwandorf adult education center, which will soon also be offering a DVD, as Managing Director Sabrina Reiner announced.

Deputy District Administrator Jakob Scharf congratulated Simon Süss on the new project and sang a song of praise for the culture and dialect of his homeland. The proven Rome connoisseur marches across St. Peter’s Square with an “Upper Palatinate T-shirt” during his stays in the Eternal City. The third mayor, Marion Juniec-Möller, congratulated the author on this “promotional film for the Upper Palatinate”. Cinema owner Karl-Heinz Saur was happy about the “full cinema hall” at the premiere. Operator Frederik Hohrath recalled the considerable effort involved in producing the film, “which was only finished shortly before the start”.
