Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
A Depok youth named Taufan Aziz apologized for joining the presidential convoy Joko Widodo and uploaded a video protesting that his car’s rearview mirror was broken by members of the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres) on the toll.
In the video shared by the Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono, Taufan admitted that he was using a cellphone while driving. Then, the car moved to the right, blocking the presidential entourage.
“I, Taufan Aziz, the owner of the Instagram account taufan_gilbert, convey my apologies and admit my guilt for my actions in-upload video of the damage to my rearview mirror because it blocked the path of the presidential entourage,” said Taufan in the video shared by Heru, Monday (27/12).
Heru also distributed a stamped statement signed by Taufan. In the letter, Taufan admitted that he intentionally uploaded a video of Paspampres breaking his car’s rearview mirror.
Taufan has accepted the Paspampres action as a form of warning for entering the presidential convoy. He also admitted that Paspampres had replaced the damage caused by the broken rearview mirror.
“I apologize for the action. Hopefully it can be a lesson to all Indonesians so that it does not happen again,” said Taufan.
Previously, social media was shocked with videos of Paspampres members breaking the rearview mirrors of car drivers on toll roads. The Paspampres who was on the motorbike asked the driver to pull over so that the presidential procession could pass.
The moment is known to occur on Friday (24/12). At that time, Jokowi traveled from Jakarta to Bogor.
The video was first uploaded by the Instagram account @taufan_gilbert. Taufan expressed his disapproval of the treatment.
“Mr. Jokowi, please, sir, that’s his entourage, sir. Go past, you don’t have to damage the rearview mirror too, sir. This is how my mirror was damaged because of your entourage,” said Taufan in a video re-uploaded to the Instagram account @memomedsos.
