Upholding Human Security: Challenges and Priorities for Indonesia

Jakarta

Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) Gen Dudung Abdurachman said that human security or human security should be upheld. Dudung said there were various issues that he feared could affect Indonesia’s security, ranging from intolerance to terrorism.

This was conveyed by Dudung in his address at the Kasad Award event at AD Headquarters, Central Jakarta, Monday (10/7/2023). heal Explaining human security includes many things. Starting from economic, food, health, individual security to political security.

Dudung said there were at least 10 issues that could threaten security and also maintain the stability of the Indonesian state. Among them are issues of intolerance to terrorism.

“Intolerance, threats to national ideology, terrorism, stunting, natural disasters and epidemics, gender equality, child protection, international solidarity, the need for innovative digitization and cultural preservation,” said Dudung at the location, Monday (10/7/2023).

Dudung emphasized that as a nation with various tribes and cultures, Indonesian people must uphold the value of tolerance. Dudung said that the differences should not separate one another.

“There is no question, tolerance is a basic value that we uphold in democracy. The diversity of ethnicity, nation, race and culture should be wealth, not a differentiator let alone a separator between us,” he said.

Another thing to watch out for is terrorism, which can threaten at any time. Dudung asked the people to always uphold the national ideology.

“That’s where our nation’s ideology, Pancasila, becomes an important variable in the philosophy of human security that needs more attention,” he explained.

Dudung added, the TNI AD through its work program focuses on these issues. This is done to maintain the stability of the nation and also human security.

In practice, Dudung said the media also plays an active role as social control and builds public awareness. Furthermore, Dudung asked all levels of society not to get caught up in existing problems.

“The media as a distributor of accurate, balanced and independent information is very crucial in building public knowledge, as well as monitoring the maintenance of the public interest,” he said.

“I believe that the presence of media that cares about human security issues is an important capital for this nation to step up and move forward to find solutions to human and Indonesian problems,” he added.
