This is a simple fact (without a subjective assessment of whether one option suits someone better or the other). The information appeared in the Lenovo FAQ, which is available directly from Microsoft. However, the FAQ comments exclusively on Windows 7; Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 make no mention.
Although there were originally reports that it would be possible to upgrade to Windows 11 for free from all previous versions of Windows starting with 7, Microsoft only mentioned upgrading from Windows 10 when it was released, and Lenovo is now confirming the 7th. As it will be with Windows 8 / 8.1, Microsoft will still have to specify. However, it is possible that the company is counting on this transition, only marketing decided not to promote the possibility of upgrading from older generations of OS.
