Upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 11 is possible, but only as a clean installation

Bude It will have a hook. Upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 11 will be possible, legally and for free, but it will not be an upgrade in the current sense (as was the case with the transition from Windows 7 -> Windows 10), but a clean installation. Therefore, the user will have to back up documents and other data and reconfigure the operating system and install all software after Windows 11 installation is complete.

This is a simple fact (without a subjective assessment of whether one option suits someone better or the other). The information appeared in the Lenovo FAQ, which is available directly from Microsoft. However, the FAQ comments exclusively on Windows 7; Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 make no mention.

Although there were originally reports that it would be possible to upgrade to Windows 11 for free from all previous versions of Windows starting with 7, Microsoft only mentioned upgrading from Windows 10 when it was released, and Lenovo is now confirming the 7th. As it will be with Windows 8 / 8.1, Microsoft will still have to specify. However, it is possible that the company is counting on this transition, only marketing decided not to promote the possibility of upgrading from older generations of OS. Perhaps to support partner assembly manufacturers (for whom it is more advantageous to sell a new Windows 11 system than to have customers upgrade the original). Microsoft may be aware that users who have not yet switched to tens will not have much interest in moving to eleven, so marketing does not see the point in actively promoting this upgrade.
