Upgraded long-range bomber Tu-95MSM made its first flight

The deeply modernized strategic bomber Tu-95MSM made its maiden flight. The General Director of the United Aircraft Building Corporation, Yuri Slyusar, reported to the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu about the start of flight tests of the Tu-95MSM.

The corporation noted that the first flight of the Tu-95MSM was carried out at the airfield TANTK im. G.M.Beriev in Taganrog. The KLA clarified that the modernized “strategist” was piloted by the crew under the guidance of test pilot Andrey Voropaev. “The flight took place in normal mode at an altitude of 9000 meters, lasted 2 hours and 33 minutes, the systems and equipment worked without comment,” the corporation said.

The Tu-95MSM is equipped with a new armament system, a new on-board electronic equipment complex, as well as modified engines and new propellers. Thanks to improvements, the aircraft significantly increased the navigation accuracy and reliability indicators, extended the service life of the aviation complex, and improved takeoff and landing characteristics.

Also on the “strategist” installed new weapons control systems, aircraft control and flight and navigation equipment. In addition, the bomber has a new onboard communications system, a radar station, and objective control equipment.

The UAC said that work on the creation of a new look for the Tu-95MSM is being carried out jointly by the Tupolev corporation and the Beriev ANTK enterprise.
