When the polling stations close, the counting starts. The Norwegian Electoral Directorate reports the first results at 9 p.m. They present them on the website valgresultat.no. But these results only include the preliminary votes that have been counted for the time being. Beyond the election night, the results are updated, as the municipalities have counted votes from the election day itself.

Have to wait for late advance votes
Tuesday at 5 p.m. is the earliest possible time for the municipalities to finish all counting. This is because, the Norwegian Electoral Directorate states, late advance votes can reach the municipalities until this time. As a consequence of this, selected candidates will not be ready until Tuesday at 5pm at the earliest.

1879 polling stations
Today, Monday, a total of 1,879 polling stations in 356 municipalities are open across the country.
Although the last polling stations close at 9 p.m., there are several that close before then.
The first counting of ballots takes place in the polling stations themselves as soon as they close. A preliminary and a final tally of the votes will then take place.
The preliminary counting of the votes is carried out by hand. It is counted how many votes each party has received, and any corrections to the lists in the form of personal votes or so-called throwaways are counted. This is what ultimately determines how many mandates the party gets and which candidates are elected.
