update on the two bridges under construction

On the right bank of the Moselle there are exceptional convoys loaded with metal profiles. In front of the Napoleon park, and behind the SNCF station, works of colossal dimensions have been underway for months.

A bunch and a first roll

Let’s stop first at the place of the first works in progress, between the entrance to the Napoleon park and the water tower of the SNCF station. A bridge of 160 meters is planned here. The first pile ends, on the right side of the bank. On the embankment assigned to the construction site, workers and technicians assemble the metal plates that will form the deck. This is done three times. A first launch between the stump and the first pier is scheduled for early October. Delivery of the set is scheduled for the end of 2023.

360 meters above the tracks

The idea of BHLS is to serve strategic positions. This includes the existing and future car parks behind the station. That is why, from now on, Smitu has commissioned a work of art that crosses the SNCF tracks to extend the route to the Cormontaigne area. Here the site is more complex because a 360-meter structure is under construction. Three stacks have already been built and the first part of the deck has already been launched.

Construction of the fourth pier is expected to begin next week. “The works will be carried out at night, because the site is located in the center of the tracks. The intervention slots were selected for three years ”, explains Sylvaine Schlienger, project manager of the Citézen project, which follows a very tight schedule with several interlocutors.

The initial deadline is met within three weeks. This slight delay is attributable to the war in Ukraine. “The Italian company BIT Constructione got its supplies from Mariupol, which is an important steel center. When the war broke out, he had to find another source of supply “, confirms Roger Schreiber, president of Smitu, who follows this extraordinary site on a daily basis.
