Revealed at the Summer Games Festival, Ubisoft’s new shooter XDefiant will launch this summer. However, as September approaches, that date looks increasingly unlikely.Additionally, in the latest release from executive producer Mark Rubinrenewthe game’s launch appears to have hit some snags.
It all hinges on the certification process, which didn’t go smoothly on the studio’s first try.“We started the process at the end of July and by mid-August we had the first results, which was a failing grade,”Rubin wrote.“We realized at the time that there was more compliance-related work than we expected. If it passed, then we would be able to ship by the end of August. But it didn’t, so we spent 3-4 weeks sorting those out. question and prepare to submit again.
A mid-to-late September release is still possible, but Rubin is preparing fans for a slightly significant delay.
“We hope to submit to the first party in less than 2 weeks,” Rubin said. “If it comes through cleanly, then we might look at mid- to late-September for a release. However, in one possible scenario, we get a conditional pass, which means we have to do a day 1 patch, and make some final fixes to ensure compliance. If we do need to do a day-one patch, this will push our date back to early/mid-October.
Rubin still seems confident in the game, though, and this seems like a fairly routine and minor setback compared to some of the bigger delays we’ve seen in recent weeks. Will you be playing XDefiant when it launches?
