Users of the various Samsung Galaxy S20 phones are complaining about not being able to use 4G after installing a recent update from Samsung. The problems are limited to users of KPN. According to Samsung, the problems have now been resolved.
Samsung says in response to Tweakers that the problem should be resolved by now. “Due to a setting on a small part of KPN’s mobile network, it was no longer possible to make a 4G connection with the Samsung Galaxy S20 since the beginning of this week, after the update that became available at the beginning of this week had been implemented. This only applied to the users of the Galaxy S20 who have implemented this update. These users could still make and receive calls, but fell back to 3G. KPN implemented a solution on the network yesterday at the beginning of the evening, which caused the performance problems for these users fixed. “
There is rather one on the community section of Samsung’s website topic about this problem in which all kinds of users are complaining about the problem. Also on the forum of Tweakers, quite a few owners of Galaxy S20 phone reported that they can no longer use 4G. It soon became clear that it was not a temporary outage; the problem was limited to the update in combination with KPN’s network.
The first report on Gathering of Tweakers came on Tuesday. This user reported that the BTJ1 update ensures that 4G no longer works and that now 3G remains in the picture. This user was able to use 4G as usual to implement the recent update, and 4G also worked flawlessly on his Galaxy S8. Another user reported that 5G worked on its S20 Ultra, but that the phone kept switching between 3G and H + connections in locations without 5G coverage.
Yet another user reported that it flashing the previous firmware could solve the problems, in the sense that 4G + is possible again, with the corresponding significantly higher download speeds. This was done by manually downloading the firmware and extracting the files via the Odin program. This is Samsung’s internal program for loading updates, for testing purposes, for example, but Odin can also be used by users. Considering Samsung’s statement, this manual solution shouldn’t be necessary anymore. A KPN user seems to be at Gathering of Tweakers to confirm that 4G works again on his Galaxy S20, although he reports that he does not yet have 5G and that the speed at 4G seems to be disappointing.
