From Eredivisie-match between FC Utrecht on RKC Waalwijk was shut down on Saturday. Referee Richard Martens sent both teams in after 22 minutes.
Martens had had enough shortly after Jens Odgaard’s equalizer. According to the referee, lighters were thrown at players’ heads. He asked the captains to lead their teams inside. It is not yet clear when and whether the game will resume.
Simon Gustafson had already put Utrecht ahead after four minutes. Shortly afterwards, Martens stopped the game for a while, because empty cups were thrown on the field. After it was announced that the fans had to behave, the game continued. Then RKC straightened its back. Odgaard missed a penalty kick, in which Utrecht fans also threw everything on the field, but after twenty minutes he still scored.
That goal clearly caused dissatisfaction with a number of fans of the home team, although there is also criticism of Martens. The arbiter stops the game very easily, is the verdict.

Now both teams even have to go inside from referee Martens. The arbiter makes a big fuss of it, while there was really no more throwing than in an average home game in Grolsch Veste or Kuip, for example. In this way a lot of discontinued pots in the offing.
