Dark clouds have gathered over this year’s E3. After several big players withdrew from participating, E3 2023 was cancelled.
Update #3: It looks like the fate of E3 2023 is already sealed. Service IGN received an e-mail that was supposed to be sent to people participating in the organization of the fair – it shows that the event was actually cancelled.
Update #2: This is not the end of resignation. Other publishers who have turned their backs on E3 and will not appear at the fair itself are: Tencent i Devolver Digital.
Update: E3 2023 doesn’t stop getting hit. Today, two more companies announced that they are withdrawing from participation in the fair: Sega and Level Infinite (via IGN).
Recent events certainly do not arouse optimism in the organizers of this year’s E3.
It was known that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo would not participate in the event, and yesterday we learned that another major publisher, Ubisoft, had resigned from participation.
E3 2023 is in doubt
When the problems facing the organizers seem to pile up endlessly, there was a suggestion on the web that the fair would not take place at all. Andy Robinson, journalist from Video Games Chronicle, we Twitter post informed that recently he “heard no good news” (implicitly: behind the scenes) about the fate of the upcoming event and would not be surprised if it was cancelled.

In response to the tweet, many commenters expressed their concern – after all, canceling the fair would be a great pity, as expressed by Hollie Bennett ze studia Frontier Developments:
[To byłaby – dop. red.] it’s a shame as these are certainly the lowest show prices ever, it was UNBELIEVABLE as far as they went down. They also have good plans [organizatorzy – dop. red.]this year really felt like a great time for the return of E3.
In response, Robinson wrote that he was positive about this year’s fair, but in the current situation there’s too much hype surrounding the whole E3 2023 thing to be sure of anything.
The date of the event is June 11-16. In the same month, we will also have a lot of competing shows from companies that withdrew from E3, including PlayStation Showcase or Xbox Live Fest. Will this year’s fair stand up to them at all? We’ll probably find out soon.
