Mortal Kombat 1, which attracted attention with the release of Homelander, Peacemaker, and Omni-Man DLCs at the last Comic Con, will open a test for pre-order buyers in August. However, in Korea, it is expected that it will be difficult not only to test but also to officially release it as it has been rejected (scheduled) for ratings like previous works.

Mortal Kombat 1 rating rejection was decided on the 27th. Regarding this, the Game Management Committee said, “As in the previous work, the rating was rejected for excessive violence.” The Mortal Kombat series was characterized by brutal action such as fatality that damages the body of a defeated enemy, and in Korea, all previous works did not receive an age rating due to violence, so the official release was canceled.

In fact, all Mortal Kombat 9, 10, and 11 were not released in Korea due to refusal of ratings, and the latest Mortal Kombat 1, like the previous work, also applied for a rating by Inplay Interactive, but did not pass. Although the rating rejection is still in the planning stage and the game company’s calling is still pending, the possibility of an age rating being released this time is very low, considering the history of previous works in which rating rejection was confirmed despite the calling.

Meanwhile, overseas, the Mortal Kombat 1 test schedule has been announced. The test period is from August 18th to 21st (local standard), and users who have pre-purchased the game can participate with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. In the beta test, 6 playable characters and 4 cameo characters appear. The playable characters are Sub-Zero, Kenshi, Kitana, Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, and Li Mei, and Frost, Sonya, Kano, and Jax appear as cameos.

Mortal Kombat 1 proceeds with the theme that Liu Kang, who became the god of fire, reconstructed the world, and accordingly, the character background story and the relationship between characters are greatly changed. The game will be released on September 19th, and supported devices are PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
