The current 24″ iMac arrived in the spring of 2021, it was built on the Apple M1 chip in the second wave of computers. Since then, it has not seen either the more powerful M1 Pro, Max or Ultra variants, nor the transition to the newer M2. Apparently, Apple will completely skip this generation and in its all-in-one computers will go straight to the more powerful M3.
According to the original plans, the improved iMac was supposed to arrive this year, but now two reliable insiders agree that it will happen next year. This is claimed on the one hand by journalist Mark Gurman writing for Bloomberg and on the other hand by an analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The iMac will arrive in the 2024 season and it will only be a hardware refresh. The body and equipment will remain the same, but the computer will be faster.
However, Kuo suggests that Apple is preparing a successor to the iMac Pro. It arrived in 2017, offered a 27″ 5K display and more powerful hardware than the small iMac. However, it never saw a new generation and the original Apple stopped selling it in March 2021.
However, his spiritual successor should arrive in 2025. Kuo is talking about a 32″ iMac with a display with a miniLED backlight and a more powerful chip. We don’t know yet if it will be called iMac Pro or even iMac Studio.
