The Annual Apple Festival takes place at Nichols Ranch, 236 Cottonwood Canyon. There will be more than 85 arts and crafts vendors, a petting zoo, live music, more than 20 food vendors, wine and beer. Fall fiber arts programming
Throughout the month of October, Bosque Redondo Memorial/Fort Sumner Historic Site, 3647 Billy the Kid Road, is hosting ongoing fiber arts programming featuring New Mexico spinner and weaver, Margaret Martinez-Blea. The Memorial is home to an average of 30 Churro Sheep and sometimes upwards of 50 during lambing season. Each fall, Site staff, with the help of professionals, process wool fleeces to prepare it for use for weaving classes or for interpretive purposes. During this time, visitors will have a chance to observe the process that the site wool undergoes to become a useable textile. Demonstrations will include skirting, cleaning, carding, spinning and weaving. Demonstrations can be observed in the Memorial Resource Room and is included in general admission. The second annual Battle of the Food Trucks takes place at Washington Park, 100 Washington Ave., from noon to 5 p.m. There will be beer tents, a cornhole tournament, DJ music and vendors. Lincoln Historical Site is hosting Herb Marsh presentation “The Capture and Death of Billy the Kid.” Historian Marsh will talk about what Billy and his friends were doing after the Lincoln County War.
