Rafik Schami presents his new book
In his new novel “When you tell, the desert blooms,” Rafik Schami combines Arabic storytelling with personal elements to create a story that is both exciting and touching. On Thursday, September 14th, 8 p.m., the author will be a guest at the Cologne-Klettenberg Evangelical Church Community and will read from his novel in the Tersteegenhaus, Emmastraße 6. It’s about the daughter of the wise and just King Salih, who sinks into deep melancholy after her mother’s death. A coffee house narrator tries to bring the heir to the throne back to life with the most beautiful stories. Entry costs 15 euros at the box office.

Concert on Joki’s stage in Klettenberg
“An Erminig” – that is Barbara Gerdes, Andreas Derow and Hans Martin Derow. On Friday, September 15th, 8 p.m., they invite you to a concert in the Johanneskirche Klettenberg (Joki’s stage), Nonnenwerthstraße 78. “An Erminig” means ermine, a heraldic symbol of the flag of Brittany. The “Plomadeg” program takes up the tradition of traveling singers and musicians in Brittany and Galicia, who traveled from village to village and reported on special events from people’s everyday lives in their songs. The group processes the musical impressions collected in constant exchange with musicians from Brittany and the international folk scene as well as on numerous concert tours into their own mixture of traditional elements and their own compositions. On Saturday, September 16th, 6 p.m., Valérie Schippers, student of Catholic church music at the University of Music and Dance in Cologne, will be visiting. Her organ program includes works by Marcel Dupré (1886-1971), Nicolas de Grigny (1672-1703), Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) and Otto Valdemar Malling (1848-1915). Pastor Torsten Krall, superintendent of the Evangelical Church District of Cologne-Rechtsrheinisch, organizes the liturgy. Admission is free.

Author reading and subsequent conversation with Pastor Hans Mörtter
The award-winning actor André Eisermann (Kaspar Hauser, Schlafes Bruder) comes to the Lutherkirche Südstadt, Martin-Luther-Platz 4, on Sunday, September 17th, 11 a.m., and reads from his autobiography “1. Middle Row – A Showman’s Life”. André Eisermann wrote down the story of his life, a life at fairs between show stalls and panopticons, in an unusual, poetic and rousing way. He was never in the same place for more than two weeks. After the reading (starting at 12 p.m.) there will be a talk with André Eisermann and Pastor Hans Mörtter under the title “Forgiveness in this day and age – God’s fools”. Entry costs 12 euros. The Evangelical Church Community of Cologne-Nippes invites you to a reading, two exciting panels and music on Sunday, September 17th, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Kulturkirche Nippes, Siebachstrasse 85/corner of Merheimer Strasse 112. The focus is on the anti-racism book “People of Germany” by Martina Rink and Simon Usifo. The SPIEGEL bestseller brings together 45 people and 45 stories. People from areas such as culture, entertainment, sports, music, business, politics and fashion talk about racism in everyday life and “how we want to change our country”. Many of the guest authors such as Eko Fresh, Thelma Buabeng, KALED, Frank Joung, Dr. Reyhan Şahin aka Lady Bitch Ray, Mirrianne Mahn, Patrick Mushatsi-Kareba, Dr. Martin Hyun and Jeffrey Lisk will be there. The event is intended to set an example against racism and discrimination of any kind. TV presenter and Emotional Health Ambassador Milka Loff-Fernandes will be leading the afternoon and early evening. Afterwards there will be time for an informal exchange with music. 20 years of ecumenical gospel choir in Cologne-Dünnwald
“Mind the Gap” is giving a big anniversary concert
The ecumenical gospel choir “Mind the Gap” has existed for 20 years. The singers want to celebrate this with a big anniversary concert on Sunday, September 17th, 5 p.m., in the Church of St. Nikolaus, Prämonstratenser Straße. Supported by a professional band, the choir presents a cross-section of its current repertoire. The choir was founded in 2003 by Birgit Pape, then cantor in the Evangelical Church of Cologne-Dünnwald. Today “Mind the Gap” has 30 members and is led by Norman E. Kunz. Admission to the concert is free. Anyone who would like to sing along regularly is invited to stop by the rehearsals on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. in the Tersteegenkirche, Amselweg 22.
