The theme of good and evil doesn’t let him go. No wonder. Friedrich von Bonin used to be a lawyer in Bremerhaven, has now written seven books and is now presenting “ZwischenWelten”. This is the name of the author’s novel, published in 2020. With his story, von Bonin draws on medieval devil fables. He represents it today. Friday, October 27th, 7 p.m., Bremerhaven, city library: Poems by a singer
She grew up in the Goethe Quarter, completed an apprenticeship at the Sparkasse Bremerhaven at the end of the 1950s and then decided to pursue art. Petra Kollakowsky left the city to study singing and made a career as a soprano at the Stuttgart State Opera. The now 82-year-old has been living in Bremerhaven for more than 20 years. With “Grown on the Weser” (Kellner Verlag), the former opera singer has now written a very personal book, which she is presenting in the city library. She expresses what she values in life with poems, texts and special paintings. The author is musically accompanied by the pianist Ilia Bilenko. The event takes place in cooperation with the Friends of the Bremerhaven City Library. The number of participants is limited. At heart he is a true rock musician: Scott Bricklin, who comes from the Philadelphia music scene, toured with his brother Brian and others in the band “Bricklin” in the 1980s, which achieved cult status in the USA. In 2010, Bricklin and some songwriter friends founded the band “US Rails”, which is known for its straightforward roots rock and has already gone on several celebrated international tours. Now the American is giving a concert in the ballroom at Bederkesa Castle. Of course, songs from the “US Rails” will be the focus of the program, which ranges from powerful rock songs and catchy pop melodies to soulful ballads. As a street musician in Los Angeles and San Francisco, she discovered her passion for blues, jazz and soul. Kristin Shey comes from Bielefeld. In Germany she won awards with her independent style of songwriting, singing and performance. Shey is a musician who shines with a large portion of charm and originality. Accompanied by her groovy guitar playing, she makes her songs shine with her great voice. But she also brings along a few acoustic treats from pieces by her favorite artists. Saturday, October 28th, 8 p.m., Bremerhaven, Theater in the Fishing Harbor: Catchy tunes from the 1920s
The 20s are called golden. Even if, as the television series “Babylon Berlin” showed us, for many they weren’t. But the 1920s represent a time of dancing fun and catchy tunes like “Veronika, der Lenz ist da”, “Sportpalastwalzer” or “Ein Freund, ein gut Freund”. Back then – unlike today – the composers and lyricists behind the hits were considered the stars from whom people always wanted to hear more. Due to the special German history, these stars were erased from the sky. All that remained were their melodies. The Casanova Society Orchestra from Berlin remembers these “missing stars”. “We bring the stars to light by telling the stories behind the songs that made history,” says the orchestra. They play random hits that became hits, hits that were forced under threat of death, and French love songs that are about a potted plant in German and are evergreen for that very reason.
