Up to five centimeters of snow expected tonight

An accumulation of snow up to five centimeters is expected tonight in Upper Belgium, according to the Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM). This Tuesday evening and overnight, showers will develop in polar maritime air and gradually adopt a winter character.

In Lower and Middle Belgium, it will be first sleet then, gradually, sleet or slush.

In Upper Belgium, the showers will initially be mostly slush but they will turn, during the evening and at night, into flurries giving rise to an accumulation.

Thus, between this Tuesday at 11:00 p.m. and Wednesday at 7:00 a.m., the MRI plans: some traces or a slight accumulation temporarily possible below 400 meters above sea level; two to four centimeters of snow between 400 and 500 m altitude and four to five centimeters above 500 m altitude.

The accumulations will however be irregular depending on the trajectory of showers.

In addition to winter precipitation, some patches of ice could locally form in the second part of the night.

Additional snow accumulation (one to three centimeters) is expected above 400 m Wednesday morning, then above 500-550 meters in the afternoon (one to three centimeters).
