“The Outlast Trials” is the latest installment in the survival horror game “Outlast” series. Set in the world of the Cold War, the player is forced to participate in an advanced brainwashing and mind control experiment conducted by the Murkoff Corporation as a “human guinea pig” forcibly recruited by the “good people” of the company. In the name of human evolution, science and profit, you are thrown into a space of disbelief, fear and violence that tests your morals and perseverance.
This work supports solo play or cooperative play with up to four people. Players aim to complete the objectives of presented experiments within a captive Murkoff Corporation facility. In this work, as with the past works of the “Outlast” series, while hiding from the enemy and proceeding while avoiding them, the enhancement of search elements etc. is introduced. Of course, all the distinctive elements of past works, such as horror, fear, mystery, and cruel expression, are still alive.
There are tools in the stage that can increase the player’s stealth ability, create opportunities to escape from enemies, and slow down enemy movement. There will also be elements to collect documents and items proving unauthorized experiments by the Murkoff Corporation. In addition to this, character customization performed in the prison allows you to change your play style by selecting tools, upgrades, and perks in addition to changing your appearance.
A closed beta test was held last year for this work, and nearly 1 million people applied for participation. A total of 35 years of gameplay was played by all players, in which 225,363 died, 656,180 were incapacitated by the enemy, and active skills were used 1,841,161 times. data have been published. In addition, it seems that the cumulative usage time of all players of night vision has reached about 11 years, and it can be seen that there are many situations where the darkness progresses depending on the stage.
