The Isonorte Foundation has received a grant of 64,527.43 euros from the General Directorate of Social Rights to continue developing the Integra Program, which serves a total of 1,600 vulnerable people on the Island.
This initiative, which is scheduled to last until February 28, is aimed at vulnerable people who are highly excluded, mainly recipients and experts of the Canary Islands Insertion Benefit (PCI). Within the framework of the project there is a Specialized Social Service, with a multiprofessional team of psychologists, educators, social workers and monitors, who, working in coordination with the technicians of the town councils, have established itineraries of social insertion with follow-up and accompaniment in the themselves.
With this extension of the program developed in the municipalities of Los Llanos de Aridane, Santa Cruz de La Palma and Tazacorte, there is the opportunity to also carry out actions jointly with the City Council of El Paso, which joined the project in November.
The profiles of the users of the program correspond to people with difficulty integrating into their environment, with an average age of 44 years. Regarding labor normalization, 79.2% of adults have low qualifications, for 52.7% age is a problem to enter and 48.6% have what is categorized as lack of attitudes and / or aptitudes.
In general, they are people with a low educational level, since the majority did not complete Primary Education (30.5%), followed by those who did not complete ESO (22.2%) and those who did have Primary (18%). There are also users with other educational levels higher than the previous ones (15.5%). Finally, there are 1.4% of adults in a situation of illiteracy.
Economic difficulties are factors that force people to take advantage of this program, with more than half of the users not being able to maintain their homes (53.73%), and with difficulties in paying rent or mortgages the rest (46.26%) . Assuming the expenses of that house is also a problem with difficulties to cover costs of water, electricity, gas or community 22.38%.
There are also problems associated with physical and mental health, such as addictions and gender violence. On the other hand, a deep digital divide has been perceived, both due to the management and use of ICTs and due to the lack of computer devices.
