For a short while, a dose of Mediterranean air will replace the arctic cold
In the week of wine and love, Little Sechko will offer us a calmer and more welcoming February weather. A burst of Mediterranean air will sweep in for a short while, displacing the arctic chill and providing more sunshine.
In the early hours of Monday, visibility will be briefly reduced in some hollows, lowlands and along large bodies of water. However, the day will be sunny and almost cloudless. Northwest wind will be felt in the Danube plain, but daytime temperatures will be higher than usual – with values between 5 and 10 degrees.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be temporary increases in cloudiness, but there will be minor rainfall in a few places – Tuesday in Northern Bulgaria, and on Wednesday – around the Black Sea. Temperatures in the morning will be around and slightly below zero, and during the day with slight fluctuations between 4 and 9 degrees. It will be windy and it is the wind that will create the feeling of colder weather.
On Wednesday and Thursday morning, there will be short-term fog conditions in the lower part of the country. It will be sunny with daytime temperatures up to 9-10 degrees. This February warm-up will peak on Friday with daytime temperatures in some areas around 15 degrees.
In the last days of this week and the beginning of next week, two cold fronts will pass through the country. The first will cover the weekend with strong west-northwest winds. Precipitation will be short-lived from rain in the plains and snow in the mountains.
The next cold front is expected around February 20. In addition to the strong wind, it will lower the temperatures. After an almost spring-like Monday, a cold front will follow with rain and snow showers. In day two we will again feel a breath of winter.
Then until the 25th-26th we will enjoy sunny February days with temperatures gradually rising above the usual for this cold month.
In the mountains, the snow cover is stable and short-term warm periods should not cause a problem in the resorts. Sunny days will offer perfect conditions for winter sports. The two passing cold fronts will bring new snow cover to the massifs of Western Bulgaria. Periodic precipitation and subsequent warming will, however, “layer” the snow and increase the avalanche danger.
